Pucker Up for National Kissing Day

Us folk spend an average of 14 days smooching during our lifetime. A smooch, a kiss, a peck, a snog, whatever you like to call it, we Brits love to pucker up. We don’t need an excuse, but with National Kissing Day gracing our calendars on the 6th July, what better way to celebrate than to pout those lips and start necking on.

To celebrate National Kissing Day, Belle Magazine have taken kissing into their own hands and research some unusual and erm…interesting... kissing facts.

  •          Kissing commonly uses only one muscle. This muscle is called the Orbicularis Oris – the muscle that we can thank our perfect selfie pouts for.

  •          Right or left? An average of two-thirds of people trip their heads to the right as they meet their ‘kissee’ for a smooch.

  •          Kissing for one minute burns an average of 26 calories….so, eat that chocolate bar. You will only need to kiss for 20 minutes! Best exercise ever!

  •          Ever thought about we why usually close our eyes when we kiss? The act of kissing actually makes your pupils dilate.

  •           Want to beat the world record for the longest continuous kiss? You’ll be non-stop kissing for over two days….ouch

  •         Kissing is one of the best stress busters. As time goes on, your kiss helps lower your levels of the stress hormone cortisol.

  •           Be careful who you kiss! Researchers state that during an intimate 10 second passionate smooching sesh, 80 million bacteria can be transmitted between partners.

  •           A strange toothbrush? Kissing can indeed help keep our teeth clean! When we kiss we automatically create extra salivia which washed out dangerous bacteria, keeping our pegs shiny and white.

Now get kissing….!
