9 reasons to make coconut oil your new BFF

What’s better than a beauty product that’s great for your skin? One that can also be used to moisturise your hair, aid stress relief, weight loss, dental care and that you can even cook with!
Quickly becoming every woman’s go-to beauty staple, Coconut oil needs no introductions, but do you know just how many uses you can actually get out of your coconut oil? Below Belle have listed 9 reasons why coconut oil should be your new BFF.
1.       It’s great for your skin: coconut oil doesn’t just sit on the top of your skin, it penetrates it allowing it to absorb into your skin without it feeling greasy. Rich in vitamin E, coconut oil encourages the growth and repair of our skin cells, protecting against dry skin. It can also help with treating various skin complaints such as, eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis.
2.       Hair care: ditch your shop-bought hair masks, coconut oil is the way forward. Giving your hair a super-silky texture, apply it to your hair as you would any other hair mask. We at Belle like to keep it in over-night and wash it away in the shower the next morning for extra shine.
3.        Makeup Remover: coconut oil is super gentle on your skin, and makes your makeup glide right off! It works better than shop-bought cleansers, is often cheaper and smells like a dream!
4.       Deodorant: coconut oil contains lauric acid, which kills bacteria. Apply a little oil onto both underarms to keep you smelling Caribbean-fresh all day long.
5.       Lip Balm: coconut oil works great as a natural lip balm, with its rich vitamin E contents it encourages the repair of skin cells, protecting cracked lips.
6.       Cooking: coconut oil is also one of the healthiest oils to cook with. It is highly resistant to oxidation at high heats, meaning it’s the perfect oil for high-heat cooking methods like frying. Additionally, it consists almost entirely of Medium Chain Triglycerides which are metabolised more quickly than Long Chain Triglycerides, having more fat burning potential and provide a quick source of energy. It’s also a great substitute for butter when baking, making your Victoria sponge less of a guilty indulgence!
7.       Dental hygiene: oil pulling became the latest teeth whitening craze in 2015; it involves swishing coconut oil around in your mouth like mouthwash. It removes harmful bacteria in the mouth and is thought to help whiten teeth.
8.       Weight loss: coconut oil is very useful in reducing weight. It contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that help shed excess weight. It is also easy to digest and is great for bursts of energy.
9.       Heals cuts and bruises: coconut oil forms a chemical layer, and when applied on infections, protects against any external bacteria. It speeds up the healing process in bruises, repairing damaged tissues.
