Review | Bo Drake, Soho
Tucked away on the trendy and authentic Greek Street, Soho,
lives Bo Drake, the fashionable restaurant whose staple menu creates an
Asian-American fusion – which we promise is a taste explosion you can’t miss! Exhibiting the traditional Asian touches with
chopsticks laid delicately on the table but still retaining the chic style that
is so famous of Soho, the Belle team were pleased to be welcomed in on a rainy Monday
evening. An intimate restaurant with little coves and corners, Bo Drake is the
perfect first date location that doesn’t fall short of character but has a
casual and less formal atmosphere.
The intimate tables for two are mixed expertly with a long
bar that positions itself to the right of the restaurant, with which one can
imagine, has the perfect leaning height. Our waitress, a young and
knowledgeable girl sat us on a charming table towards the back of a restaurant
and wasn’t shy to fill us in her recommendations and decipher the menu for us.
With an Asian tapas type feel we were to pick a couple of plates to suit our
tastes and share between us. The restaurant was busy, but despite the dark
interiors, we did not feel enclosed.
An expertly constructed cocktail menu in hand to browse
through, from a Peruvian Garden to the Big Smoke infused with Bamboo Syrup, we
were finally won over by Ginsberg and Hemingway Daiquiri. Admittedly a little
too strong for my liking, a girl of 5’5 with very little tolerance to alcohol,
but nevertheless a pleasant drink to sip over dinner.
The menu at BoDrake is something to be admired. Myself an
avid meat lover and my guest a strict vegetarian meant that there was a slight struggle
navigating the menu. However, the small yet satisfying portion sizes enabled us
to pick and choose in the tapas style that BoDrake intends. Beginning our
BoDrake taste journey, we started with a healthy portion of KFC (Korean Fried
Chicken) which can only be described as heaven. If you’re a fan of the naughty
stuff, then this is the ultimate menu spot. Shortly followed our selection of
main courses. A divine stack of fall of
the bone chestnut wood smoked ribs with an Asian BBQ sauce and a sprinkle of
green chilli was placed in front of us. The distinctly sweet aromas of the sauce
and the spicy bite of the chilli was enough to get the mouth-watering! Guided to
the specials menu displayed rather proudly and authentically on the wall led us
to choose a deliciously cooked piece of cod with a fine-dining inspired sauce.
Sweet potato fries with a Kimchi Island Dressing accompanied our mains as we
savoured every last mouthful. Always tempted by a sweet dessert, the Green Tea
Panacotta caught our eyes. A smooth and creaming yet distinctive desert, I was
on a mission for the secret recipe!
Belle Review in 140 Characters:
Deliciously tantalising fusion of Asian BBQ with a
multisensory taste and aroma explosion. Highly recommend.
